About Dr. Ryan Derby
Ryan Derby, MD
Dr. Ryan Derby is a Bay Area–born, double fellowship–trained pain medicine physician specializing in advanced, non-pharmacologic treatments for acute and chronic pain. He focuses on precision diagnostics, ultrasound-guided nerve blocks, and minimally invasive interventional procedures that help patients restore mobility and function without reliance on long-term medications.
Dr. Derby earned his medical degree from the University of Utah and completed his anesthesiology residency at Washington University in St. Louis. He went on to complete dual fellowships in Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle and in Pain Management at Stanford University, where he later served as faculty.
Rooted in his Bay Area community, Dr. Derby combines technical expertise with a compassionate, patient-centered approach—helping individuals move beyond pain and return to active, fulfilling lives. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time outdoors, exploring Northern California’s trails and coastlines, cycling, and keeping up with his two young daughters, ages three and five.
